Tenner's Ten is back for week fifteen! Every Monday we are bringing you ten songs we have had on repeat for the week. This week's on repeats include new tracks from Rex Orange County, featuring Tyler, The Creator, Orion Sun, Dera Meelan and Christian Alexander - plus some incredible new music from our artists to watch girlhouse and MCK.
Rex Orange County - 'OPEN A WINDOW'
(ft. Tyler, The Creator)
Rex Orange County has graced us with twice this week, first with the release of the laid back track ‘OPEN A WINDOW’ featuring a jazzy and buoyant verse from Tyler, The Creator. The second time with his new album, ‘WHO CARES’. The track marks the first time the two have collaborated since Tyler’s 2017 album Flower Boy, and has very quickly become our favourite Rex Orange County song.
Orion Sun - 'intro'
Wow, Orion Sun’s new EP ‘Getaway’ is incredible. Infused with a love for hip-hop, we were hooked immediately from the first track ‘intro’ where Orion Sun finds a glimmering blend of R&B and hip-hop. We highly recommend listening to the EP!
Dera Meelan - 'Lullaby'
(ft. Church & Nganeko)
Sheesh, this one is nuts! Dera Meelan has returned with his first release of 2022, kicking off the roll out of his solo music with the release of ‘Lullaby’ featuring Church of Church & AP, and songstress Nganeko. The trio show an immediate chemistry, with Nganeko’s angelic vocals meeting with Church’s boucny R&B vocals. After the skill shown producing South Auckland rapper deadforest’s debut album PLASTIC last year, as well as producing in-house for Church & AP, we are more than excited to dive into the world of Dera Meelan.
Christian Alexander - 'Waste Her Time'
Christian Alexander has returned with his new single ‘Waste Her Time’, a track that proves the sonic journey he’s taken in his relatively short career. It follows his single ‘Makeup’ last month, and an incredible debut live performance supporting some of BROCKHAMPTON’s final shows. His latest single comes alongside the announcement of his debut album, ‘I Don’t Like You’, out April 1st via Kevin Abstract’s label Video Store.
girlhouse - 'paul blart mall cop'
girlhouse is one of our favourite new discoveries, and we found her just in time! The release of ‘paul blart mall cop’, marks the explosive rollout of new music for girlhouse, and the first offering of her next project ‘the third ep’ - one we are over the moon excited for. We listed girlhouse as one of our artists to watch, we definitely recommend checking them out!
BENEE - 'Soft Side'
BENEE’s new EP ‘Lychee’ is a fun project, full of new terrain and sparkling experimentation. Her signature songwriting shines through ethereal soundscapes throughout the project, never afraid to surprise. ‘Soft Side’ is one of our favourites from the project, featuring the production of Kenny Beats. Some other highlights from the EP include ‘Make You Sick’, Hurt You, Gus’ and ‘Beach Boy’.
tobi lou - 'Hopeless Romantic'
This song has us missing the energy of a live crowd, with recordings from a tobi lou concert echoing underneath the booming beat. This track is the opener to tobi’s new mixtape, ‘Non-Perishable’. Some other highlights on the project are ‘2hrs+’ with T-Pain, ‘WIDE Open’ featuring Jean Deaux, and ‘Hurry-Up Offence’
redveil - 'diving board'
One of our favourite underground artists right now, redviel strode into the spotlight in 2020 with his uniquely forward-thinking EP ‘Niagara’ and has been showing his diverse sonic range every since. His new single ‘diving board’ is a further exploration of his ever expanding sound, sitting up there with our favourites ‘Campbell’, ‘Weight’ and ‘Soulfood’ among many more. Redveil is currently gearing up to join Denzel Curry and Freddie Gibbs on their North American tours.
Maddy Jane - 'It's A Lot'
Introducing Maddy Jane, an independent singer and songwriter based in Tasmania, Australia. Premiering on Triple J, her latest single ‘It’s A Lot’ is a real indie treat. Maddy’s unique and honest songwriting shines through on this one, giving us the first taste of new music from the Australian singer this year.
MCK - 'An Honest Mess'
(with Mountain Boy)
A new era of MCK has begun with the release of her latest single ‘An Honest Mess’, taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘Becoming’. The track features Melbourne-born artist Mountain, the duo’s chemistry combining into a perfect duet. We listed MCK as one of our artists to watch, and are so excited to hear her debut album unfold!
